Advent Week Five: Christmas Emmanuel!

We think Christmas should be full of food and love – of stringing popcorn and cranberries, eating cinnamon rolls and reading tattered pages of poetry while cuddling by the Christmas tree. But we aren’t so naive. We also know it’s sometimes the emotional and chaotic crescendo of a year full of building tension from relational pressure and family responsibilities. We know you have high expectations that aren’t always met. 

How is your mama heart today?  

However you answer that question is okay. We don’t all arrive to Christmas day in one peaceful piece, and we just want you to connect with your feelings today. Cry your tears of joy and or of sadness, and most importantly, let your Christmas crescendo with Christ at the center – because He’s the child that came crashing to earth to pierce the darkness of this fallen word. His coming through the heavens lets you take a break from holding them up. You’ve kept the sky from falling for your kids all year – you’ve provided protection and safety, and shouldered every single responsibility, milestone and emotional need. No wonders you’re tired. Rest your arms mamma, lay it all down this week, perhaps for the first time since becoming a mom. And tell them the story of how Christ came incarnate, to live in our world, then died so we could escape it, but left His Spirit with us, so that until we do, we could always have, Emanuel – God with us.                                                                                                                               

“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of. Peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7
